Democratic Republic of the Congo

No Open Banking

The most populous Francophone country in the world, and the second-largest country in Africa.

18% of the population have internet access, and 47% of people have a mobile phone connection.

37% of people do not have bank accounts. Recent financial inclusion projects have targeted mining areas, and have aimed to improve financial literacy and support financial service providers, as well as training new banking agents in rural areas.  With less than 35km of paved roads for every 1 million citizens, it can be physical infrastructure that is the main barrier to financial inclusion. Mobile banking platforms are thus a focus in developing financial inclusion.
