No Open Banking

A landlocked country in South Asia.

Internet penetration of the small country (population 780,000) of Bhutan stands at almost 50% as of January 2021.

Over the past decade, Since 2008, Bhutan has been pursuing to increase their Gross National Happiness, and the country has managed to reduce its number of extremely poor by two thirds. In 2015 the Bank of Bhutan launched mBoB, its mobile banking service, now heavily used in the country. The Bank of Bhutan has also been developing the use of QR codes for payments across merchants, but as yet, Open Banking is not on the cards.
