This time we’re featuring Alfiya Khan, who’s one of our Software Engineers at Ozone API.

Alfiya has been with us for over 2 years and specialises in backend development, but has also taken on the role of Scrum Master and Technical Onboarding Coordinator for new joiners.

What inspired you to pursue a career at Ozone API?

Open bankings potential to transform financial experiences captivated me. At Ozone API, the opportunity to build a product core to this revolution was irresistible. Ozone APIs commitment to innovation and shaping the future of finance aligned perfectly with my own desire to make a positive impact. Joining the company felt like the perfect chance to contribute to a movement redefining how we manage our finances.

How has your role evolved since joining Ozone API?

My journey at Ozone API began with backend development. To enhance my leadership skills and facilitate agile practices, I have also been given the additional responsibility of Scrum Master. This experience ignited my passion for teamwork and led to my role as the technical onboarding coordinator for new joiners, ensuring their smooth integration. It has been a rewarding journey from building code to building a thriving development team.

What advice would you give to someone starting in a similar role?

Be proactive and eager to learn! Don’t hesitate to ask questions and take the initiative. Ozone API offers a fantastic environment for growth, and you’ll have ample opportunities to contribute to the core product.

If you could switch jobs with anyone in the company for a day, who would it be and why?

While I love my current role, if I had to switch, I’d be intrigued to step into the shoes of a product manager for a day. Understanding the strategic decision-making process and seeing how product visions are crafted and brought to life would provide valuable insights into how our technology impacts the broader business.

What is one goal you’re currently working towards?

My current goal is closely aligned with Ozone APIs broader mission of expanding into new markets. Specifically, I am focused on understanding the unique regulatory and market nuances of each region while simultaneously gaining a comprehensive global perspective. By tailoring our open banking API solutions to meet these specific needs, I aim to ensure compliance and deliver relevant, high-quality services to our diverse customer base. This approach supports our strategic goals and helps position us as a global leader in driving financial inclusion and digital transformation.

Can you share a fun fact or hobby outside of work?

A fun fact about me is that I’m an avid reader. I love diving into different genres, especially fantasy, mysteries, and science fiction. One of my all-time favourite series is the Harry Potter series.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

If I could have any superpower, it would be the ability to teleport instantly to any location.
